A boozed-up reveller admitted stealing a bottle of vodka from a bar during his birthday celebrations and helping himself to a drink.
Liam Lawley, 29, of Sudhall Close, Dunston, Chesterfield, admitted at Chesterfield magistrates’ court on Monday that he reached over the bar at the Association Bar nightspot and snatched the bottle before putting it in his coat.
Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop said a staff member had spotted the bottle under a table so CCTV footage was checked and it showed Lawley stealing the vodka. Lawley pleaded guilty to theft after telling police he had helped himself to a drink during the incident in November.
Jon Barber, defending, said: “He was going out for drinks for his birthday and had far too much and at some point it became a case of helping himself. It was stupid.”
Magistrates sentenced Lawley to a £74 fine and ordered him to pay £60 compensation, £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
