Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Tuesday, September 22, how Sally Anne Hydes, 31, was seen repeatedly knocking on her ex’s door on Derby Road, Chesterfield, before she reversed her vehicle into his home.

Prosecuting solicitor Ian Shaw said: “A witness was in bed and became aware of knocking which was repeated and eventually it made her look outside. She could see Hydes knocking at a front door and the defendant left and came back and there was more agitated knocking and swearing. Shortly afterwards, the witness heard a vehicle stop abruptly and as she looked out again she saw Hydes driving a pick-up and it was reversed hard into the front door.”

Hydes, of Wesley Avenue, Aston, Sheffield, told police she had fallen out with the occupant, who was her partner at the time, and she had wanted to speak to him. The defendant pleaded guilty to damaging the door including internal brickwork after the incident in August.

Defence solicitor Matthew Burdon said: “She had been in dispute with her ex-partner and he refused to answer the phone and she believed he was cheating on her. He wouldn’t open the door and subsequently she found out there was another lady in there and the defendant went away but she came back and a red mist descended. It was simply anger and a lack of judgement. In the last three months it has also been a very stressful time for her.”

Magistrates adjourned the case to consider probation reports before sentencing on September 23 as the Derbyshire Times went to press.
