Police had to hold back crowds who turned up to stare at a large fire in a scrap yard last night.
Fire crews and police were called to Arnold Smith and Sons, in Station Road, Creswell, at about 6.30pm.
As firefighters tackled the blaze in the scrap yard, members of the public started to gather outside to watch it, causing traffic problems on Elmton Road.
The police had to use crowd control measures to ensure people were unharmed and the road was closed.
The fire, which is believed to have been caused by accidental ignition, was out by about 7.40pm.
It occurred as firefighters were staging a 24-hour strike – meaning reserve crews had to tackle the blaze.
In total, reserve firefighters dealt with 11 incidents across the county during the walkout, which ended at 9am today.
