It was decided by officers and residents that the policing priority for the area would be extended during the safer neighbourhood governance meeting last Tuesday.

The team will be heading out on patrol to speak to motorists about the importance of safe and considerate driving and sticking to the law on the roads.

PC Andy Crosthwaite and PCSO Karen Green are looking to team up with members of the public to carry out community speed watch events in the area to target those exceeding the limit.

The scheme has equipment which displays the speed of passing motorists, alerting them as to whether they are abiding by the speed limit or not.

The volunteers will take down details of vehicles that are excessively speeding and the information is fed back to the policing team so that warning letters are issued to anyone caught speeding in the area.

Residents are invited to attend the next governance meeting on July 22 at Rems Bar, on Market Street, in Chapel from 7pm.
