Crack down on access only roads in Whittington Moor

Residents on Sanforth Street and Nelson Street have raised their concerns to the police and Mr Perkins about drivers using them as a cut through between Sheffield Road and Peveril Road.

Team Sergeant Lee Jones said: “Access only means that only residents and visitors to people who live on these roads can use them and these restrictions are signposted at both ends of both Sanforth Street and Nelson Street.

“The idea behind the initiative was to try to make people aware of the issues caused by using the road as a cut through, and to remind them of the restrictions. We spoke to around 30 drivers during the time we were there.”

Officers from the Dunston, Moor and St. Helens Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team met with Mr Perkins to discuss the concerns, speak to residents and drivers using the road about the issue.

Sgt. Jones added: “I would urge all motorists to respect this rule and also the wishes of the local community, who are concerned about the volume of traffic using the roads, which can both get quite narrow, and the potential risk this poses to the safety of others in the area.”

Officers will be patrolling the area and carrying out spot checks, and tickets will be issued to motorists caught breaching the restrictions.
