Cabinet members approved the funding on Tuesday to allow design work and consultation to be carried out for a number of schemes which, if given the green light, would start in 2014-15.

Fellow Mercury reader, Mark Yeomans, said there was a high number of potholes appearing in Chesterfield Road, outside Highfields School.

He said: “There are more and more potholes appearing and the road service from Highfields School down to Matlock green is shocking.”
