BUDDING sports coaches keen to develop opportunities for others in their communities or swishing to further develop existing skills are being invited to take up a council training programme.

Bolsover District Council’s Sports Training and Education Programme for 2012/13 - more commonly known as STEP - has recently been finalised. The programme includes a number of workshops which are being hosted at venues across the Bolsover district.

Workshops within the programme include Equity in your Coaching, Fundamentals of Movement and Safeguarding and Protecting Children. Emergency Aid and a Typhoo Sports For All – Disability Inclusion course also form part of the programme and a number of the workshops will be delivered by Sports Coach UK qualified tutors and are three hours in duration.

Workshop attendees will receive a certificate of attendance as well as a resource pack or handouts, containing further information and useful contacts.

Bolsover District Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Inclusion Cllr Ann Syrett said: “Close to 200 people attended workshops on our STEP Programme last year. In order to sustain and create additional sporting opportunities within the district, we want to encourage and support as many individuals as possible to become volunteers, sports leaders and coaches.

“The workshops provide ideal opportunities for individuals to develop their knowledge, keep up to date with any changes and share good practice and we recommend you book early to secure a place.”
