CHESTERFIELD Borough Council has announced the two companies who will go forward to the next stage in the selection process for the town’s Northern Gateway project.

Following a rigorous evaluation process, the council has shortlisted Muse Developments and Wilson Bowden and invited them to submit their detailed proposals for the scheme.

Cllr John Burrows, leader of Chesterfield Borough Council, said: “Muse and Wilson Bowden have some exciting ideas for the Northern Gateway site.

“The council is satisfied that both these companies have a strong track record and will be able to deliver a development that raises the quality of the retail offer and enhances Chesterfield as a shopping centre and visitor destination.

“The development is expected to generate a significant number of jobs both during construction and once completed.

“Muse and Wilson Bowden have confirmed that they are committed to maximising opportunities for local businesses as well as jobs and training opportunities for local people.”

The Northern Gateway project is one of the town’s major regeneration schemes to redevelop the Donut roundabout area of the town centre into a high quality shopping experience.

The two developers will now submit detailed proposals by the end of January 2012 and the preferred partner will be announced by March 2012.

If a suitable partner is found within the project timescale, a planning application could be submitted next summer with work to begin on the site in 2013.
