A COUNCIL chief declared he is happy in principle to try and support a Bolsover mum and her son’s bid to get cycle lanes in the town.

Derbyshire County Council deputy leader Simon Spencer heard Andrea Barker and 12 year-old Jack Barker’s plea for safety measures during a council meeting on Wednesday, December 5, after the youngster was involved in two collisions with cars while he was on his bike.

Cllr Spencer said: “The council is supportive of initiatives that encourage new forms of sustainable transport and I’m happy to investigate and support Jack’s proposal.

“What Jack is asking for will be subject to a 106 planning agreement with Bolsover District Council where an agreement with a developer will be needed to support any road safety initiatives and they will have to consult with the county council.”
