A coroner has opened an inquest after a moped rider died on a Derbyshire road in a serious crash.

Nicola Sanderson died when the 125cc Yamaha moped she was riding collided with a Ford Transit van at the junction of Tom Lane and Staveley Road, Duckmanton, last Monday at 4.25pm. She was travelling in the direction of Arkwright.

Ms Sanderson, who had recently divorced and was formerly known as Nicola Holmes, was airlifted to Northern General Hospital in Sheffield with serious head injuries.

The 40-year-old, of Laburnum Street, Hollingwood, had been fighting for her life in intensive care but sadly died last Tuesday night.
