POLICE are investigating a suspected arson attack on a car which spread to a disused commercial property.
The fire was discovered in a Fiat Marea car, on Williamthorpe Road, North Wingfield, about 4.45am, today, Tuesday, April 19, and flames and heat scorched a nearby former freezer centre.
A police spokesman said: “It’s believed someone smashed one of the car windows and set fire to the vehicle which was parked on a forecourt of the disused freezer centre.
“The inside of the Fiat was destroyed and there was some scorching to the outside of the former business premises.”
Clay Cross firefighters armed with breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet extinguished the blaze and made the area safe within an hour.
Witnesses or anyone with information are urged to call Derbyshire Constabulary on 0345 123 3333 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111.
