POLICE have launched an investigation into a suspected arson attack after a caravan erupted in flames and the blaze spread to a portable cabin.
The fire was spotted on Mill Lane, Dronfield, about 11.20pm, on Sunday, and Chesterfield and Dronfield firefighters were called out.
Crews armed with breathing apparatus, a main water line and a hose reel jet extinguished the blaze and made the area safe within an hour.
A Derbyshire fire service spokesman said: “The fire is believed to have been a deliberate ignition so the police were requested to attend.
“It spread to a nearby cabin and cutting equipment was needed to cut away parts of the cabin to extinguish the fire.”
Crews who were particularly concerned because there were cylinders nearby used a thermal imaging camera to ensure there were no remaining hot spots that could reignite.
Witnesses are urged to call Derbyshire police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
