IT’S a hidden gem in Derbyshire, sparkling away in the majestic Peak District.
And this weekend the much-loved Hathersage Swimming Pool will celebrate its 75th anniversary.
The recently revamped heated outdoor pool, which opened in 1936, attracts several thousand visitors each year.
Councillor Dave Jackson, from Hathersage Parish Council, which owns and manages the site, on Oddfellows Road, said: “The pool is very important to a lot of people – after all, it’s one of the few remaining lidos in the area and the country.
“It offers a very enjoyable experience – a combination of being able to swim in warm water whatever the weather, surrounded by glorious scenery,” he added.
Pool bosses intend to mark the milestone anniversary with a range of activities from 2pm to 6pm this Sunday (July 24).
The celebratory event will include synchronised swimming, a boat race and music from Hathersage Silver Band.
Tickets, available from the pool office, are £3 per adult and £2 per child.
Cllr Jackson said: “It promises to be a wonderful event – everyone’s very excited about it.
“Here’s to many more years of the pool!”
