Derbyshire Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse Service (DDVSAS) has administered many changes to its therapeutic services for men and women who are experiencing domestic abuse.
Counsellors at DDVSAS all offer their services free of charge. Some of our counsellors are qualified and others have some counselling experience behind them but are still completing their training, all are committed to their client’s wellbeing
Counselling is a safe space for you to talk about problems that may be having an impact upon you, and helps you see things more clearly. This can help you make changes in your life or work through difficult or confused feelings.
A counsellor will not judge or advise you, they will help you work through your feelings and help you find your own way forward.
All our counsellors are members of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and follow its code of ethics. Here at DDVSAS the care and wellbeing of our clients is paramount and we strive to achieve high standards for all our clients. We have strengthened our relationship with local universities for taking student counsellors/art/drama therapists and we also have vacancies for qualified volunteer counsellors so have a look on our website www.ddvsas.org.uk.
Furthermore, we are now offering art therapy to children and adults. It is the use of art materials for self-expression and reflection in the presence of a trained art therapist. Through use of art materials – paint, clay, drawing and other materials it can help you express your feelings.
Art therapy has also become an increasingly popular way for children with special needs who have experienced domestic abuse to overcome difficulties and will therefore help them to feel empowered through their art work.
If someone cannot verbalise a past event, it can offer the expression of emotion through the use of an art process.
If you have experienced domestic abuse and you think you may benefit or want to know more about counselling or art therapy then all you have to do is call our counselling hotline for a chat in confidence on 07775544383.
