Community champion Anne Tempest has been honoured for her voluntary work with elderly residents in Baslow.

Anne has been awarded the honour of citizen of the year by Bakewell Rotary Club.

She was selected in recognition of her many years of service to elderly residents of Baslow and surroundings, including those from as far away as Sheffield, Chesterfield and Hathersage.

For the last 27 years, Anne has served as chairman of the Baslow Senior Citizens Club.

The club, which is celebrating its 49th anniversary, meets in the village hall where senior citizens enjoy afternoon tea, sandwiches and cakes.

Accepting the award from president Kathryn Heath, Anne commented on the increase in numbers of over 90 year olds from just one ten years ago to 13 this year.
