A 79-year-old man died on Christmas Day after being found in the smoke-filled kitchen of a house in Eckington.
Neighbours saw smoke coming from the man’s house, on Castle Hill, at about 9pm.
A Derbyshire police spokesman said: “The neighbour and the man’s son-in-law got into the house and found him lying on the floor.
“They dragged him out and began to resuscitate him in the garden.
“Paramedics continued the resuscitation but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Derbyshire police and Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service will carry out a joint investigation into the incident but the man’s death is not being treated as suspicious at this stage, the spokesman added.
