A FIRE which gutted an Alfreton Chinese take away is being treated as arson.
Firefighters spent over six hours tackling the blaze in the upstairs of the China Town restaurant on King Street.
Around 25 crew members from Chesterfield, Alfreton, Ripley, Clay Cross and Crich were called at 10.45am on Tuesday, April 24.
The A61 road to Chesterfield was closed at around 11am while crews used a cherry picker and breathing apparatus to fight the fire.
Crews were still damping the area down at around 4pm and a fire investigation has been launched.
A civil engineer on the scene deemed the building structurally safe after crews removed debris from the roof, which has almost entirely caved in.
The cause of the blaze is as yet unknown.
A police spokesman said the fire was being treated as suspicious.
