Youngsters at a school in the Chesterfield area are royally honoured to receive a letter from the Queen.

The children at Gilbert Heathcote Nursery and Infant School wrote a letter to her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, and even though they never expected a response, they were amazed when they got one.

Joanne Mappin, Headteacher of the school in Scarsdale Road, Whittington Moor said as part of their curriculum topic, the Year Two children designed stamps and coins, wrote stories and painted pictures to celebrate Her Majesty’s prestigious title of Longest Reigning British Monarch.

She added: "From this, the children decided to write to the Queen to share pictures and show her all their class work."

"It was very exciting to receive a letter with the royal crest on," said pupil, Alyssia.

"We were not sure that she would write back’ said Jude, ‘because she is really busy, but she did."

The class teacher Mrs Smith stated, ‘that the children were thrilled to receive the letter and it was lovely for them to receive recognition of their work from Her Majesty’.
