CHESTERFIELD: Scarsdale Rotary Club learns about mayoral life

President Andy Matthews chaired the weekly meeting of The Rotary Club of Chesterfield Scarsdale held at Proact Stadium on July 25, with 35 members present.

He welcomed past president Martin Cruttenden (Wirksworth RC) on a visit to the club and he brought greetings from their president Mel Askew. Andy also welcomed speaker Roger Davison, Lord Mayor of Sheffield 2005-06.

Past president Brian Harrison advised the club that he was again organising the Club Charity Golf Day on August 29 and welcomed any additional teams for the event.

PP George Ling held the club Foundation Draw and winners were: 1. Brian Harrison, 2. Peter Beardsley, 3. Bill Ervine.

Rtn David Melton introduced the speaker Roger Davison, who gave an enjoyable presentation of his year in office as Lord Mayor of Sheffield 2005-06. He had 1000+ engagements including the G8 Conference in Sheffield and met numerous royalty and sporting legends including cricketer Fred Trueman. Freedom of the city was bestowed upon England cricket captain Michael Vaughan and Olympic Champion Seb Coe. Above all he enjoyed that aspect of giving recognition to those people who deserved it.

The vote of thanks was proposed by junior vice-president Peter Stevens.
