CHESTERFIELD: Scarsdale Rotary barbecue raises £600 for OAPs’ party

The weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Chesterfield Scarsdale was chaired by president Andy Mathews at the Proact Stadium with 36 members present.

The president thanked everyone who helped with the annual club barbecue at the home of past president Peter Beardsley which raised more than £600 for the annual old people’s Christmas party.

The club held its village walk the previous week at Wirksworth where Rotarians and partners were introduced to the lead capital of the country. The walk was followed by a pleasant supper at Matlock Golf Club.

The president reported that 13 members and partners would be attending the annual Rotary conference at Scarborough.

Past president Brian Harrison updated the members with regard to the club charity golf day which is to be held on Friday, August 30, at Chesterfield Golf Club, there are 32 teams entered.

Rtn Ron Enoch updated the club on the classic car show which was held at Ashover where the four Rotary clubs involved each received £2500 to their charity funds. The date for the event next year will be July 27.

The club are holding a new venture on January 18, 2014, at the Proact Stadium with a charity dinner and a Neil Diamond and Tom Jones tribute act, tickets are available from PP Rodger Heathcote 01246235810.

The meeting ended with a general knowledge and sports quiz organised by past president Brian Harrison.
