The puppy sculpture in The Yards area of Chesterfield town centre is now officially known as Digby the Dog.

Traders ran a competition with shoppers to find a suitable name for the puppy and Marie Moore from Eckington came up with the winning name.

Marie received a special hamper with goodies from The Yard’s independent traders.

The puppy sculpture is one of several pieces of artwork that were installed to improve The Yards area to promote businesses and attract more shoppers.

Alison Swift from Altered Chic in The Yards said: “We had a great response from the public with some terrific suggestions for names. The puppy has really captured the imagination of our local shoppers and he gets lots of attention from young and old!”

Cllr Amanda Serjeant, executive member for leisure, culture and tourism said: ”The puppy sculpture was part of our Chesterfield Cultural Renaissance project and was paid for by European Regional Development Funding. All the artworks have become a great talking point in The Yards and we’re sure Digby will be become a much-loved favourite with shoppers.”
