CHESTERFIELD: Rotarians elect members to serve on club council

President Jim Haggarty presided at Chesterfield Rotary Club’s annual general meeting in the Olde House, Newbold.

Members adopted the annual report for 2012-13, which revealed there had been another full programme of community activities in support of disadvantaged groups at home and abroad during the past 12 months.

The following members were elected to serve on the club council for the next Rotary year: past presidents Ian Gaunt, Geoff Mitchell, Bryan White and Rotarians George Freeman, Keith Hutchinson, and Mike Modiri.

The president reported on the first ever spring tea party hosted by the club at the Olde House for 51 local senior citizens on Wednesday, May 22. Entertainment for this successful event was provided by musical duo Ken and Rita Taylor, popular vocal instrumental cruise ship entertainers.

There was also bingo, a raffle which raised £51 for local Rotary charities, and a special tea served by Rotary and Inner Wheel members. The event was organised by Rtn George Freeman and MC was president Jim Haggarty. Go to www.chesterfieldrotary.co.uk for the full story.

At the next meeting tomorrow (Friday, May 31) the guest speaker is Andrea Hooley on ‘The New Kids’n’Cancer Chesterfield Marathon’. Duty Rotarian is junior vice president Rob Wadd.
