President Rodger Heathcote chaired the weekly meeting of The Rotary Club of Chesterfield Scarsdale held at Proact Stadium on January 24, with 33 members and 13 visitors present.
He welcomed speaker Chris Turner, chief executive officer, of Chesterfield Football Club.
Rodger presented a club cheque for £2000 to past president David Oldale from Rotary Club of Dronfield, secretary and Alan Kirk, member of Chesterfield Diabetes UK Local Volunteer Group who thanked the club for their donation.
Rodger welcomed past president John Moss of The Rotary Club of Chesterfield, Les Ashmore. David Finney and Keith Toone.
Several other visitors who have shown an interest in the club included Martin Barrett, Clive Edwards, John Hawkins, Paul Willis and Roger Woodhead.
Rodger then introduced the speaker Chris Turner. Chris gave an insight into the life of a professional footballer/goalkeeper who played for top clubs including Manchester Utd, Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday, and played in their 1-0 victory over Man Utd in the 1991 League Cup Final.
He then managed Sheffield Wednesday, Stockport County and Hartlepool United. He became CEO of Chesterfield FC in December 2011. His eventful presentation entertained the meeting highlighting the players and managers he had worked with and for including Sir Alex Ferguson. PP Brian Harrison gave the vote of thanks.
The club had an excellent meal at The Proact Stadium and the charity donation and top class speaker ensured all members and visitors had an enjoyable evening.
