Three local primary schools helped to bring festive cheer to town centre shops by producing window displays, murals, tree decorations and Christmas tree designs.

Three local primary schools helped to bring festive cheer to town centre shops by producing window displays, murals, tree decorations and Christmas tree designs.

Pupils from Mary Swanwick, New Whittington and Temple Normanton Primary Schools had their work displayed in Bhs, Burger King, Car Phone Warehouse, Co-op Travel, F. Hinds, Grainger Games, Super Cuts and The Works in Chesterfield.

Bhs, based at the Vicar Lane Shopping Centre, offered three prizes in a Christmas tree drawing competition, which were all won by pupils at Temple Normanton School. They invited children from the school and headteacher Janet Baxter to a Christmas lunch in their restaurant, where the prizes were given out .

F. Hinds offered a 9 carat gold pendant and earring set to the winner of the best Christmas tree decoration in their store, which was won by five year old Ben Umney from Mary Swanwick School, who made a robot decoration. Ben was presented with his prize by Liam Gibbs, manager from F. Hinds, and said he would give the prize to his mum for Christmas.

Vicar Lane Shopping Centre awarded each school a gift voucher to spend in The Works.

FESTIVE FUN: Emma Tooley, from New Whittington, with Martha Whitehead (left) and Olivia Anderson.
