CHESTERFIELD: Nightingale Probus Club members are given a talk on home security

The president, Chris Smith, welcomed 39 members and one guest to the July meeting of Nightingale Probus held at the Olde House, Loundsley Green.

After the business items were heard, the raffle was drawn and made £39 for club funds.

Chris then introduced speaker, PC Dave Randell. Dave had brought along a variety of leaflets and special items designed to help deter thieves. He explained the uses of these items and gave club members forms to fill in, so that they could all be kept up to date with crime in areas in which they lived. After a very interesting hour and lots of questions, Dave concluded his talk by repeating that simple non-expensive steps can be taken to deter the opportunistic thief (which most are). These people will always chose the easiest house to burgle, so, for example, closed gates are more of a deterrent than open ones.

Mrs Debbie Waters gave the vote of thanks.

New members are welcome, anyone interested should ring club secretary Mrs Marilyn James on 01246 222446 for more information.
