Chesterfield Morning Guild have had a very busy time. At the last meeting in May the ladies shared books, which they had read, leading to a great deal of discussion.
At the “Talk Shop” meeting Mrs Alva deChiro led a discussion on the mandate which she would be proposing at the Townswomen’s Guild AGM in Harrogate. The mandate which read “Townswomen’s Guilds supports a change in the law to allow terminally ill, mentally competent people to have a right to an assisted death” was seconded by Mrs Jean Jackson. The well attended meeting debated the issue, and the consensus was that the proposal should be passed. Thirteen ladies attended the AGM in Harrogate and were pleased when the mandate was passed.
At the main meeting the speaker was the Rev Canon Terry Page who was very amusing and entertaining.
In June, 51 ladies went for a 30th birthday celebration at the Blue Bell at Tissington where the ladies enjoyed a three-course meal, and 21 ladies were presented with their badges for 10 years service in Townswomen’s Guild.
Ladies were reminded to attend the Talk Shop in July when Mrs Margaret Baxter, delegate, and Mrs Mary Smith observer, will be giving a feedback from the AGM.
Congratulations were extended to Mrs Jan Buck on being elected national vice-chairman of the Townswomen’s Guilds.
