CHESTERFIELD: Mayor Donald Parsons’ gala dinner raises over £1,000 for good causes

The Mayor and Mayoress of Chesterfield, Cllr Donald Parsons and his wife Diane, attended The Mayor of Chesterfield’s Gala Dinner fund raising event in aid of the four chosen local charitable organisations.

The Nenna Kind Cancer Drop in Centre, The Shoe Box appeal to Afghanistan, Chesterfield Armed Forces Day and the Staveley Armed Forces and Veterans Association will all benefit from the 2012/2013 appeal. Each organisation is also represented within the Appeal Committee.

The gala dinner was held in the Proact Stadium on Friday evening however, the atrocious weather did take its toll on some attendances from outlying locations.

After a blessing and grace from the Rev Richard Harris, civic dignitaries, councillors from around Derbyshire, families, friends, committee members and volunteers tucked into dinner.

Leader of Chesterfield Council, John Burrows, used his inimitable auction skills to extract further funding to boost the appeal’s coffers.

Hot on the heels of the auction came live music from the Buddies and a disco.

Over £1,000 was raised by the gala dinner event and this result could not have been achieved without the support of participants, contributions and the teamwork and advice offered by Gary Cook and Emma Bolton of the Proact Stadium.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Chesterfield have expressed their appreciation and thanks to all involved on behalf of themselves and the Appeals Committee.
