Sheffield M.E. Group was pleased to participate again at the popular family event, organised by Action on Housing, ‘Party in the Park’ held at Queen’s Park on Friday, August 9.
The aim was to promote awareness of ME/CFS and to raise funds selling books, DVDs and electronic games to help provide an outreach worker who can give valuable support and advice, particularly on benefit applications, to members living in and around Chesterfield who are not well enough to travel into Sheffield.
The stand with its new full length pop-up banners, sponsored by the Hugh & Ruby Sykes Foundation, attracted a large number of visitors including the Mayor and Mayoress, Cllr Paul Stone and Mrs Barbara Wallace. The mayor, whose theme this year is ‘facing challenges’, was keen to find out about how ME/CFS affects individuals and showed interest in the group’s activities in Chesterfield.
George O’Neill from elasticFM community radio also carried out an interview to be aired on his afternoon show.
A number of visitors were actually suffering from ME/CFS and plan to join members at the group’s next Network Meeting. This meeting will take place at Chesterfield Library on Wednesday, September 25, 2pm-4pm, when there will be a guest speaker, talk and workshop about ‘Relaxation and Visualisation’.
Future events to be held are:
Wednesday, October 16 - Sheffield M.E. Group Annual Conference, 1.30pm – 4.30pm at The Circle, 33 Rockingham Lane, Sheffield S1 4FW. This year the keynote speaker is Sue Pemberton from ‘The Yorkshire Fatigue Clinic’. Contact the office if you need transport from Chesterfield to this event.
