Eight Year 9 students took part in the final of the Rotary Young Designer Competition organised by The Rotary Club of Chesterfield Scarsdale at the Proact Stadium.
Three students came with their teachers and parents from Tibshelf Community School (sponsored by the Rotary Club of Alfreton) and five from Tupton Hall School (sponsored by Chesterfield Scarsdale club). These finalists were selected by the schools from over 140 entrants. The standard of entries was excellent.
The students were given the brief of designing an accessory for a tablet PC.
The winner was Leigh Macey for her Diabetes Test Application and plug in device, she was awarded a cup by Rtn Neil Baker JVP. Leigh is a student at Tibshelf School. All finalists received a certificate and a book token for £20.
The young designers were: Tibshelf Community School - Leigh Macey (First place), Lauren Rose Bird, Rose Kirkwood; Tupton Hall School - Jack Geary (who came second with his body mounted solar charger), Imogen Clark (who came joint third with her tablet case that could warm up or cool down), Samuel Grosvenor (who also came joint third with two part design for a car and a case), William Patterson and Emma Barnes.
