Chesterfield and District Family History Society held its May meeting at St Hugh’s RC Church, Littlemoor. Chairman Keith Fanshawe welcomed members and guests.

Guest speaker Dominic Johnson gave and interesting talk entitled, “Peering at the Past” looking at Palaeography (the study of ancient modes of handwriting). The talk included useful tips on how to decipher the writing on old documents like wills and church records. The vote of thanks was given by Marion Yeldham.

Raffle winners were Carol Snell, Kelly Garfoot, Doreen Rodgers, Margaret Garfoot, Grahm Nelson and Brian Nelson.

The society’s next meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 4, when Anne Cole will give a talk entitled, “Quarter Sessions Records”.
