A team of caring council workers are to take on a charity abseil down the tall hall to raise money in the name of their colleague.
The 12-strong Chesterfield Borough Council group decided to take on the daring challenge after their colleague, senior solicitor Amanda Walker was diagnosed with ovarian cancer earlier this year.
Sarah Goodwin, head of governance, who has been leading the project, said: “Look around any room at work and there will be a colleague who has had a parent, sibling or friend who has survived or died from cancer.
“In my case my mother died from secondary breast cancer 19 years ago. My daughter was just four months old and neither she nor her two younger brothers have experienced the love of a grandmother.
“So for Amanda and her family and all families and friends of cancer sufferers, colleagues and I are abseiling from the town hall to raise money for Cancer Research UK – vertigo or no vertigo.”
The abseil, which is sponsored by Arvarto, will take place on Saturday, June 29 at 11am.
