The building on The Green, Hasland, may be demolished in a project lasting up to five weeks.

Chesterfield Borough Council is currently considering the proposals and is yet to make a final decision.

In a planning application, applicant Coverland UK Ltd, which is based in Bramley Vale, said: "The building is in disrepair and uneconomical to reinstate in its current condition."

At this stage, it is not known what will happen at the site once the planned demolition has taken place.

Bloom Demolition and Excavation Ltd will knock down the building if planning permission is granted.

In a notice of intended demolition, the company said: "These works will begin in late May and are to be carried out in a single phase with works lasting some four to five weeks.

"There will be some vehicle and plant deliveries prior to and at completion of these works and we will make every endeavour to keep any transportation movements to hours where we anticipate the minimum of disruption to residents and businesses alike.

"We anticipate the demolition to be non-intrusive as much of the work will be carried out using hand demolition methods."
