Rotarians toasted their club’s 90th charter anniversary at a Scottish-themed celebration.

Rotarians toasted their club’s 90th charter anniversary at a Scottish-themed celebration.

The Rotary Club of Chesterfield’s event recognised the credentials of club president Jim Haggarty who was piped into the event.

Over 120 Rotarians and guests, inclluding representatives from nine other Rotary Clubs joined in the celebrations at Ringwood Hall, Brimington.

District 1220 Governor Dave Ashley brought Rotary International greetings and paid tribute to the 90 years of international and local community service provided by the Chesterfield Rotary Club since first receiving its Charter in 1922.

Its first president was Sir Ernest Shentall, JP, and since then the Chesterfield Club has spread the good work of Rotary by setting up the neighbouring Rotary Clubs of Chesterfield Scarsdale, Dronfield and Bolsover, and started up seven Probus clubs in the Chesterfield area, namely Chesterfield, Scarsdale, Cavendish, Hardwick, Nightingale, Markham and Eastwood. It was also instrumental in the setting up of the local Talking Newspapers organisation.

After-dinner entertainment was provided by Kick ‘n’ Rush comedy skiffle band.
