A FANTASTIC football match raised pots of cash for a cancer charity.

Springwell Community College staff beat Netherthorpe School workers 2-1 in the thrilling fundraiser held at the B2Net Stadium in Chesterfield on Tuesday.

The event – which included raffles, a tombola and music – raised bucket loads of money for Myeloma UK.

It was organised as Springwell Community College’s headteacher, Steve Goddard, is fighting the cancer.

A school spokesman said: “It went incredibly well.

“Both teams were really well supported by lots of students, family and friends.”

The spokesman added that Mr Goddard, who attended the event, was “overwhelmed”.

They added: “Everyone loved to see him there and we wish him well.”

The school was still counting donations as the Derbyshire Times went to press.
