THE ROTARY Club of Hope Valley has handed out over £13,000 to 15 different charities internationally and locally during 2011 and aims to make further donations of £10,000 before the end of the summer.

Those who have benefited include worthy causes in struggling countries such as the Jolie Rider Bikes for Africa scheme, spectacles for Third World countries and shoebox supplies for British soldiers in Afghanistan.

Others include Sheffield’s Weston Park Teenage Cancer Unit, the Edale Mountain Rescue Team, Hope Careline for the elderly and Hope Valley College.

Hope Valley club president Ian Ord said: “We are not the largest Rotary club in this part of the world but we do believe in trying to make a difference by living up to the Rotary principal aim to put service before self.”
