BUILDING contractors who have completed a new £4.7m business centre in Shirebrook have officially handed over the completed property to the council chiefs behind the scheme’s development.
The Tangent, at Brook Park industrial estate, hopes to kickstart the economy in and around the former mining town of Shirebrook by providing a fantastic, affordable base for small to medium sized businesses in the region.
Cllr Alan Tomlinson, of Bolsover District Council, said: “The aim is to support the business community and provide growth and employment in the town.”
The centre, which is due to open to the public in September, includes 34 units including offices and workshops, high speed broadband, three meeting rooms and a conference room with video communication equipment and a shared lounge with refreshment facilities where businesses can hold events, network and showcase their companies.
It is part of the council’s Shirebrook Masterplan and was built by contractord J. Tomlinson to regenerate the region which has suffered with unemployment during the economic downturn and ever since the area’s colliery closed in 1993.
Cllr Tomlinson added: “This handover marks the birth of this business centre which is a major investment for the area.”
The project has been funded with £900,000 from Bolsover District Council’s Working Neighbourhood Fund and £3.8m from the European Regional Development Fund.
