PLANS to convert the former Whitton Lodge Bed & Breakfast Hotel in Hardstoft into a care home for people with learning difficulties have been approved.

Bolsover District Council’s Planning Committee met on Wednesday July 18 to discuss the proposal which will see the large two-storey property with single-storey extension converted into six bedrooms with en-suite facilities, a sensory room, quiet room, lounge, dining and kitchen and accommodation for the home manager.

The existing outbuildings will be used for horticultural and husbandry activities to help stimulate the residents with additional activities such as a kitchen garden, arts and crafts also being made available.

The development will be home to no more than six people and will not be a secure facility, but will have alarms on doors for the safety of its residents. Planning Committee members had visited the site prior to making their decision to assess its suitability and access issues.

The development must be started within 3 years and a scheme showing access and driveway improvements needs to be submitted to the Council before the scheme can commence.
