Car stolen from Chesterfield abandoned on the M1

Police are appealing for information after a car was stolen and abandoned on the northbound slip road at Junction 31 of the M1.

A blue Vauxhall Astra was reported stolen from outside Queen’s Park Sports Centre in Chesterfield at around 3.40pm on Saturday April 2.

Officers carried out a search for the car, and it was followed by police along the northbound M1 until the vehicle stopped and was abandoned on the northbound exit slip road at Junction 31 at around 4pm.

An 18-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy, who are suspected of stealing the car, were arrested by police at 4.50pm on Orchard Croft, in the village of Wales, South Yorkshire.

Both the man and the boy, who are from the Leeds area, have been bailed pending further enquiries.
