The fire service, police and paramedics attended the A38 northbound between Coxbench and the A610 Ripley at 11.30am to one saloon car “well alight”.

This meant the road was closed in both directions following a collision involving a lorry and a motorcyclist on the southbound carriageway near the Ripley junction at around the same time.

Crews used two hose reel jets and two breathing apparatus to extinguish the flames.

The stop message was received at 12.04pm.
