Schoolboy Jake Stallan had the honour of being installed as a Boy Bishop.

Jake, a pupil at Calow Primary School, was enthroned at a ceremony attended by the Bishop of Repton with musical accompaniment from the school choir.

Dressed in his robes and mitre, Jake attended events in his capacity as Boy Bishop for the parish of St Peter’s , Calow.

The tradition of appointing a Boy Bishop started in England during Medieval times when a local boy would be elected to the office on December 6, which is St. Nicholas’ Day (the patron saint of children) and carry out his duties until December 28.

The tradition was resurrected in Calow by the Rev Michael Champneys.
