CAMPAIGNING students are calling for a cycle trail through the Hope Valley.

Hope Valley College students paid a visit to Derbyshire County Council’s HQ in Matlock to meet highways chief Councillor Chris Jackson and hand over a petition calling for the trail.

The proposed route would run adjacent, but separately, to the main road through the Hope Valley.

Steve Taylor, from the college, who is leading the campaign, said: “We believe that if there was a safe cycle route then people would be encouraged to use bikes – a more environmentally friendly form of transport.”

Mr Taylor added that a safe cycle route would provide students with a safe, greener and alternative way of getting to and from Hope Valley College, on Castleton Road.
