BOLSOVER District Council’s conversion of the public toilets in Bolsover town into a brand new retail unit has paid off with the recent letting to Hilltop Cars creating five new jobs.
The unit complements the Cavendish Walk area and is now a brand new taxi rank and waiting area.
Council regeneration chief Cllr Alan Tomlinson said, “This is great news and proves we were right because certain individuals said we would never let these premises. We have replaced what was becoming a health hazard with a brand new retail unit into an expanding business.”
The taxi rank hopes to encourage more people into town.
The old public toilets cost in excess of £18,000 per year to clean and maintain and were becoming a risk to the public and hygienic public toilets are available in the adjacent council offices.
Since occupying the unit, the business has grown from one minibus vehicle to providing an extra four new cars and employing an extra five members of staff with more job opportunities likely to follow in the near future.
Hilltop Cars said the unit is ideally placed in the town centre.
