Buxton pickpocket warning

Police are warning Buxton shoppers to be vigilant after a woman had her purse stolen in a supermarket.

The victim was shopping in Morrisons, on Bakewell Road, Buxton, yesterday morning (Thursday) when she noticed her purse, which was in a closed zip pocket in her handbag in her shopping trolley, was missing.

Police are urging shoppers to be on their guard and to make sure they do not leave their bags, purses or other valuables unattended.

PCSO Ally Ratcliffe, from Buxton Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “It only takes a second for a thief to steal a purse but if you are on your guard, they won’t have the opportunity.”

Witnesses to the theft of the purse should call Derbyshire police on 101.
