National award for health trust

SPEECH and language therapists in Derbyshire have won their third national award for a campaign to highlight the value of therapy in helping patients find their voice.

The speech and language therapy team at Derbyshire Community Health Services won the UK-wide Team of the Year at the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists’ Giving Voice awards ceremony in London last week.

The Giving Voice judges said they were impressed by the diversity of the team’s campaigning which ranged from producing Giving Voice postcards containing key facts about communication needs to gathering feedback from service users about their experiences of speech and language therapy in Derbyshire.

The team’s Giving Voice campaign also won two awards at the Advancing Healthcare Awards 2012.

Andrea Robinson, speech and language therapist at Derbyshire Community Health Services, said: “The Giving Voice campaign has been an excellent opportunity for us to highlight how speech and language therapy transforms lives in different ways.”

l At the recent Health Service Journal Awards, Derbyshire Community Health Services NHS Trust were named runners-up in both the Trust of the Year and Good Corporate Citizen categories.
