A Cheshire construction worker is to ply his trade against some of the best in the UK after reaching the finals of a national roofing competition.

Chris Williams, who works for G Timlin Roofing Limited in Disley, is through to the final of SkillBuild, the UK’s biggest and longest-running skills contest, which is being held as part of the Skills Show this week at the NEC in Birmingham.

The 20-year-old, of Marple, is the North West’s representative in the roof slating and tiling discipline after topping his class at Bolton College, where he has been studying towards an NVQ Level 2.

Going head to head with seven other finalists, Chris will have to demonstrate his skills by producing work based as accurately as possible from drawings unveiled at the start of the competition.

The winner of the national title, unveiled during a gala awards dinner on Saturday, will go forward to represent Great Britain in the international competition.
