A leading businessman and ex-Chairman of East Midlands Development Agency is to oversee a new group aimed at reviving and boosting Bolsover district’s economy.

Derek Mapp, of Chesterfield, has held senior positions at top UK companies and was the former High Sheriff of Derbyshire.

He will lead a Business Advisory Group with successful business experts to implement Bolsover District Council’s Growth Strategy and to help companies develop further.

Council regeneration chief Alan Tomlinson said: “This is an amazing opportunity for us to use Derek’s and the group’s vast skills to benefit businesses and we can’t wait to get started.”

Initially, the group’s focus will be on existing assets, such as Pleasley Vale Business Park and The Tangent, while the council invest generated income to support businesses across the district and to create jobs.

Mr Mapp said: “I am delighted to be designing and delivering the council’s business strategy, which inevitably will be to make Bolsover District one of the best places to start a small business.”
