Brimington and Tapton Local History Group’s meeting this Thursday, April 25, will be part one of a talk called ‘Hansel and Gretel’, by Jean Loebl. This is the story of an escape from the Nazis in 1939, of a Jewish bookseller and his journey from Sudetenland to the UK. The meeting is at Brimington Church Hall, Church Street and starts at 7.30pm, with doors opening at 7pm. All are welcome.
The March meeting of the group heard an account of the history of Calow and Hasland by the editor of the Derbyshire Victoria County History (VCH), Philip Riden. The early history of the two communities was set out, with a review of notable features and industry. The communities are being researched by the VCH, led by Mr Riden.
