Highfields sixth form students are once again celebrating outstanding A level results today, with an overall pass rate of 99.6%, the best ever achieved by the school.

Many students have achieved the coveted A* results, introduced two years ago as a means of indicating exceptional performance, and overall 60% of grades are in the A*-B category, again a record for Highfields.

The results mean that the vast majority of Highfields students will be able to follow their planned route.

For many of the youngsters this will be a place at their choice of university, for others a place in employment or further training.

Head of sixth form, Martin Flett, said: “I am really proud of how hard these youngsters have worked, their commitment, drive and enthusiasm.

“They are happy and well rounded individuals who have made some great contributions to our community.”

Assistant head of sixth form, Ann Thompson, who is retiring after 37 years, said: “We are very proud of all their achievements and wish them every success in the future.”
