Chesterfield Borough Council has opened a book of condolence in memory of the victims of the Paris terrorist attacks.

The book can be signed at the council’s customer service centre in New Square.

The union flag is also flying at half mast on the Town Hall until sunset.

A council spokesman said: “We would ask members of the public to join us in any of our public buildings as we observe the Europe-wide one minute silence at 11am in memory of the French terror attack victims.”

A total of 129 people died in Friday’s attacks on bars and restaurants, a concert hall and the Stade de France.

The group calling itself Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
