BOLSOVERE: Townswomen’s Guild hear tales from the workhouse

On Tuesday, October 8, at the meeting of the Bolsover Townswomen’s Guild, chairman Mrs Kath Howarth welcomed 18 members.

The usual guild business was dealt with in record time to make way for the speakers, The Workhouse Storytellers. This was a small group of speakers, all volunteers, associated with the National Trust and Southwell Workhouse. All were wearing authentic costumes and acted out stories of some of the inmates. The performance was entertaining and moving and was enthusiastically received by members.

Afterwards, the speakers joined members for the guild’s 24th birthday celebrations.

The next meeting of the guild is on Tuesday, November 12, when the speaker will be Canon Trevor Page, giving a talk on Christmas Surprise.
